Cours de coréen ᚛ Level 2 - Korean for Beginners #1 (Lessons 31 to 60) ᚛ Leçon 52 - "With" in Korean
Expressing the idea of "with" is simple in Korean. For that, we use the same particles used to express the link "and" between nouns, that is 하고, 와 / 과, and (이)랑.
Note, however, that 하고, 와 / 과 and (이)랑 are used to express "with" in the sense of accompaniment, being accompanied by a person or object.
This should be differentiated from the "with" of the means of doing something, which uses the particle (으)로, as we saw in the previous chapter.
친구하고 학교에 가요.
→ I'm going to school with a friend.
지유랑 드라마를 보고 있어.
→ I'm watching a drama with Jiyu.
지난 주말에 가족이랑 시간을 보냈어.
→ I spent time with my family last weekend.
지민이는 동료와 싸웠습니다.
→ Jimin had a fight with a colleague.
It's very common to use the words 같이 and 함께 (= together) to reinforce the idea of doing something with someone.
나하고 같이 갈 수 있어?
→ Can you go there with me (together)?
우리는 그들과 함께 운동했어.
→ We exercised with them (together).
